Summer 10-10 QSO Party Kickoff Net

Castle Craig Inverted_Small

There will be a Castle Craig Chapter Net on Friday August 2nd 2013 on the club net frequency of 28.375. The purpose of this net is to kick off the 10-10 Summer QSO Party. I hope that all club members will join in. Even if you do not have a 10-10 number you are worth 1 point to the rest of us who do and are submitting logs. The QSO party runs from 0000 UTC August 3rd 2013 to 2359:59 August 4th 2013.

I would like to ask everyone to help listen for stations that I may not be able to hear.

If you are a paid up 10-10 member your support of the club, and our chapter would be appreciated. Please make as many contacts as you can, and submit your log for credit. Remember to mention that you would like to credit Castle Craig Chapter of 10-10 with your score. Also if you talk to any area 10-10 members before, during or after the contest please remind them that Castle Craig is their local 10-10 chapter and their support would be appreciated if they will be submitting a log.

We will start taking check ins at 7:45 PM local time, (23:45 UTC), and I will be the Net Control. I would like a station to help with relays if needed. The procedure is simple. At 8 PM local time, (0000 UTC Sat. Aug. 3rd), we will start from the top of the list, (myself), and I will give my 10-10 information, that is Call, Name, QTH (state), and 10-10 number. The next station will be called and that person will give their information and then stand by. We will proceed to the bottom of the list.

The procedure is then repeated from the top to bottom of the list, except you will call all stations that you heard and QSL their information. If you need a repeat on any information this is the time to ask for it.

Once the last station is called they should have no calls to make because everyone has called them.

I expect that this net should last no more than about 20 minutes.

Please plan to attend and get the Summer 10-10 QSO party off to a rousing start!

-- NEW INFORMATION --

For the local MARC Members, I usually give out the information for W1NRG, but the 10-10 rules state that you may have multiple club stations operators. If any of the club members, (especially if you don't have a 10-10 number and would like to participate to know what it is like to join a 10-10 QSO party), you can take the station for a few hours of operation, (or the whole contest), I just have to know when you are operating so I am not passing the information out at the same time. Please contact me to make arrangements and for any information you may need.

EU Stations participate in 10-10 Convention Bonus Program

Castle Craig Inverted_Small

I am pleased to announce that three stations in Germany have been designated Special Contacts for the Castle Craig Net Special during the time of the Convention Bonus Point Program.  You may contact any one of these stations and claim the 100 point Net Bonus for your Castle Craig Plus if you are unable to work the Convention 10 Meter Station or any Connecticut 10-10er during the period of July 9, 2013 to July 15th 2013.

(For the purposed of this special any 10-10 station who is within the borders of the
State Of Connecticut is an authorized station for this bonus).

If you contact one of our Special Contacts please send your log information to the
CM N1API at his listed email address to claim your bonus points.  You only need to make contact with any one of stations to claim the bonus.  We are adding the European stations in order to give those who have little or no propagation to work the US a chance to get the extra points on your Castle Craig Plus.

We have received permission from the Airport Authority to put up a 10 meter station with outside antenna for the period of the convention.

The three stations who have been designated Special Contacts are:

DK7LA     -  Wolf
DJ3LA     -   Marianne
DL8YBM  -   Henry

We hope that you will be able to participate and earn the bonus points for your Castle Craig Plus.

Sign up as a New Member before the Convention

Castle Craig Inverted_Small

As we prepare for the Convention here in Connecticut, we are preparing the paper work for the Castle Craig Bonus Program for the Convention.  There will also be an announcement concerning this coming soon. Check the Castle Craig News page for the details.

We are ready to start to welcome new members to the chapter in preparation for this event.  If you are interested in joining our certificate program you only need to work an instant qualifier.  Any station that shows 8 points or more on their Castle Craig is an Instant Qualifier and we are eager to have you join.  We would like to sign as many stations up as possible before the convention.  If you are interested please send an email with the call of the station who qualifies you to the CM
N1API.  So avoid the convention rush and join now!

Also if you are trustee of a club station and would like a number for your club's certificate list please send the CM an
email.  We issue Castle Craig Numbers to club stations on request of the trustee or person in charge of operation of the station.  Also if you are the operator of a club station that has a number and you and do not have a Castle Craig number and would like one please contact the CM.  You qualify for a number as the Club's trustee.

We look forward to welcoming as many new members as possible.

Winter 10-10 QSO Party Kickoff Net

Castle Craig Inverted_Small

There will be a Castle Craig Chapter Net on Friday February 1st 2013 on the club net
frequency of 28.375. The purpose of this net is to kick off the 10-10 Winter QSO
Party. I hope that all club members will join in. Even if you do not have a 10-10
number you are worth 1 point to the rest of us who do and are submitting logs. The
QSO party runs from 0000 UTC February 2nd 2013 to 2359:59 February 3rd 2013.

appreciated. Please make as many contacts as you can, and submit your log for credit.
Remember to mention that you would like to credit Castle Craig Chapter of 10-10 with
your score.

We will start taking check ins at 6:45 PM local time, (23:45 UTC), and I will be the
Net Control. I would like a station to help with relays if needed. The procedure is
simple. At 7 PM local time, (0000 UTC Feb. 2nd), we will start from the top of the
list, (myself), and I will give my 10-10 information, that is Call, Name, QTH (state),
and 10-10 number. The next station will be called and that person will give their

The procedure is then repeated from the top to bottom of the list, except you will

any information this is the time to ask for it.

Once the last station is called they should have no calls to make because everyone has
called them.

I expect that this net should last no more than about 20 minutes.

The conditions on 10 meters have been fair to excellent the past few months. There
have been openings to different areas of the world on many days and a few days when
no activity has been heard on 10 meters. I expect that this year's QSO party will have
fair conditions as we got toward the current sunspot cycle peak.

Because this year our chapter is the host chapter for the Convention, I would like to see
a special effort from our club members to participate in at least the Winter and Summer
QSO Parties this year. I encourage members who have not rejoined 10-10 in a few years to
take at least a one year membership and support our chapter this year for both the QSO
Parties. I would also see non 10-10 members that belong to the club to look into joining
10-10 and also support us in our efforts this year.

Also as you talk to local, (Connecticut), stations on 10 meters and also the different
bands please mention this QSO party and ask them to check 10 meters at times during the
weekend to participate. Please remind them that if they are in the local ground wave
area and members of 10-10, that The Castle Craig Chapter of 10-10 is their local chapter
and we would appreciate their support for the QSO Parties. We've seen a few non MARC club
members submitting their score for the chapter. We'd like to see more. Castle Craig
usually finishes pretty well in the chapter standings. We'd like to do better.

If you have your collected 10-10 numbers sitting now is the time to send them in or go to
the 10-10 web page at http://www.ten-ten.org/memship.html and either use the online
shopping cart to join or fill out a paper application and mail it. There is a special
three year incentive plan for $40.00 or you can join for the basic $15.00 a year. 10-10
has started a membership plan with electronic delivery of the 10-10 News and there are
special rates for new and rejoining members of $10.00 for one year and a three year
incentive for $25.00. It takes about three weeks to get your number back via mail.
Remember you need to be a paid up member for your log to count for awards and also toward
the club score. A good incentive for joining is that ALL 10-10 awards are now FREE, and
most if all do not require QSL cards and can be applied for via email. You will receive
award certificates by return mail, (or), for many, you can ask for a PDF certificate to put
in your computer or post on your web pages.

Please plan to attend and get the Winter 10-10 QSO party off to a rousing start!

Castle Craig Convention Bonus Points Program

Castle Craig Inverted_Small

This year because the 10-10 Convention is being held in Connecticut and sponsored by The Castle Craig Chapter of 10-10 we have a special bonus program to offer.

The Castle Craig Chapter will have a chapter table at the 2013 1010 Convention in Windsor Locks, CT in July  and be represented by N1API the CM / CH of the Chapter.  We hope everyone will stop by and say hello.  Even if you are not a paper chaser please stop by, sign our guest log and say hi so we can meet and greet you.

All those attending will become Honorary Locals (HL) for the Castle Craig Basic number HLs are those chapter members who are in the local ground wave area of the chapter.  All chapter members who attend the convention will get a 100 point bonus to your Castle Craig Plus just for attending.  If you participate in the parking lot net you will get an additional 100 point bonus for the net, for a total of for 200 points added to your Castle Craig Plus.  For those who join The Castle Craig Chapter at the convention, participation in the net will qualify you for all awards up though and including the Constitution State award and with the points available at the net we hope to see some nice upgrades from our members.  Once you obtain all the basic awards you only have to submit Castle Craig Plus point for your upgrades.

We, (of course), will be signing new members up at the convention.  We encourage anyone who is interested in joining the chapter to look over your list of contacts for one of our many IQs, (anyone over 8 points), and apply for the chapter number before the convention for yourself and your club.  Information on the Castle Craig Chapter, it's history and award program can be found on the
Chapter Information Page.   Please contact N1API via email if you are interested or have any questions.

We hope to see you in Connecticut in July!

Well the call for member photos has produced it’s first responses.
Thanks go out to Bob KB9NZX and Bill K2BIL.

2012 Nutmeg Hamfest a success

Nurmeg_Hamfest_Logo_1

Well, another successful Nutmeg Hamfest and Connecticut State Convention has come and gone.
This year the event was at a new location, not far form the old one, and everyone (mostly) found the Four Points Sheraton without major difficulty.

Fabulous door prizes where award.
Webmaster K1PU won a matching power supply for the Yaesu 2 Meter Mobile he won last year … now he’s told to let others have a turn or face the wrath of the propagations Gods!

For a sampling of the event,
see the Photos section.
Some picture where not posted to protect some Hams from XYL sanctions.

10-10 Summer QSO Party Results

Castle Craig Inverted_Small

The 10-10 Summer QSO party results were posted on the 10-10 web page today.  I know that there were a couple that missed the cutoff date for logs and I guess that I am going to have to post reminders on when logs are dues so perhaps we can get a few more log in.

Here are the results for the first call area, clubs and chapters.

Summer2012_W1

Summer2012_Clubs

Summer2012_Chapters

Thanks to those who submitted logs for the chapter.  I think that this is probably our best showing in the standings.  If we get a good band for the Winter QSO party, (which should be close to the top of the cycle), and a few more stations we might go second or third.  (Am I reaching if I say first)... That's a tough one because of the large chapters with 10 or more entries.

Castle Craig - 30 Years!

Castle Craig Inverted_Small

While gathering information to put this site together, both the Webmaster and the CH/CM realized that the chapter has been in existence since the summer of 1982!
Well, 30 years is cause for some mention of the chapters longevity and wishes to continue on for more years.
My congratulations to our ever suffering CH/CM, Al N1API for sticking with it making Castle Craig a great 10-10 chapter.

New Castle Craig Site

Castle Craig Inverted_Small

Our Certificate Manager, Al N1API, was keeping the chapter web pages on his ‘personal’ page.
This arrangement ended with the ISP making policy and pricing changes.
Now, the new webmaster, Mark K1PU, is hosting the chapter web pages on his work server farm.

For the next month or so, this site will be ‘under construction’, so stop back often and see what improvements are made and content added.

Any comments should be sent to the webmaster.
